President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation
On January 1, 1863 President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation which declared that all persons held as slaves within the rebellious states shall be free.
General Order No. 3
On June 19, 1865 U.S. Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger issued General Order No. 3, which informed the people of Texas that all enslaved people were now free.
Biden signs bill making Juneteenth a federal holiday
In June 2021, Congress passed a resolution establishing Juneteenth as a national holiday; President Biden signed it into law on June 17, 2021.

The 2022-2023 National Miss Juneteenth Nazstazia Simone Jubitana
Meet our new queen! Nazstazia Simone Jubitana is 16 and a high school graduate with a 4.0 GPA.
The national pageant, which took place in Galveston, Texas at the annual meeting of the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation. It was planned and produced by the National Miss Juneteenth Scholarship Program Committee and endorsed by NJOF. NJOF worked for more than a quarter of a century to have Juneteenth recognized as a national holiday and has been instrumental in the passage of bills recognizing Juneteenth in more than 46 states and the District of Columbia.

Friday, September 8th, 2023 9am-1pm at the Civil Center. The diabetics Association will host this event with Juneteenth, Terri Sewell and other dignitaries in offices. Free food & parking

The National Juneteenth Of Alabama Candlelit Vigil
January 15, 2024 6pm- 7:30 pm The Official National Juneteenth of Alabama will host it's 3rd Annual Candlelit Vigil for victims of Homicide and Corvid-19 at Kelly Ingram Park by the praying men. All are welcome. Bring pictures of deceased.
